19 of the Russian's 21 victories have been earned on hard surfaces

A revitalized Medvedev claimed his maiden trophy for over two years with success over Corentin Moutet in the competition championship match.

The Russian, a former world number one, has endured a challenging period, achieving just one win at the big events and undergoing a difficult moment at the American major.

The player's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serve in specific - led to him dropping out of the top ten and finally separating with long-term trainer Gilles Cervara.

Now training with Johansson and his other coach, he has consistently improved in the recent weeks - climaxing in a closely contested three-set triumph over challenger Moutet.

It is his maiden trophy after the Italian tournament and maiden on a hardcourt since spring of the previous year.

The win also indicates he has secured 21 titles at twenty-one various events.

"It's the first time I am participating in a tournament with my both daughters at once, so to secure a title is really nice," stated world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my child my daughter, because the first title I achieved when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had failed in his previous six championship matches, including in that event previously this season.

Medvedev's defensive play style and regular reactions on court had led some to doubt if his skill to perform at the highest level was over.

Yet the athlete has altered his approach in the past month, striving to approach the net and compete positively, reinforced by an improved serving game.

He recovered from a deficit in the initial set against the challenging opponent, winning four of the concluding five exchanges to take the lead.

The competitors traded break points in the second set before Moutet, bidding for his first professional title, took control to create a third set.

He saved 4 early-game opportunities in a tight third set before the champion broke to that score to serve for the match.

Suitably, the winner secured the title with a point at the net, with his opponent failing to control a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
